The Home Box Office Network's America Undercover series co-produced (with Telling Pictures) Paragraph 175. HBO writes about the documentary:
In 1997, filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman met with Klaus Müller, German historian and European Project Director for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Müller had been researching gay survivors of Nazi persecution since the early 1990s, and he proposed a collaboration to draw attention to this hidden history. The result is Paragraph 175, built around the personal stories of homosexual men who experienced Nazi persecution. As interviewed by Müller and the filmmakers, the interviewees tell an epic story, made vivid with period images and original footage shot for this film. These are complex people Ñ often bitter, but capable of irony and humor Ñ and their collective story is a testament to human resilience in the face of cruelty.
